Introduction to Powwows with Sissy Thiessen

As we move into the third week of our “Learning from the Indigenous Peoples of Canada” series, we wanted to move a step further from online resources, and connect with Indigenous people in our community, and learn from their knowledge and experiences. We received Sissy Thiessen’s contact information from someone in our church community, and after Matt contacted her, we recognized that we had a previous relationship with Sissy…she facilitated a Blanket Exercise (An interactive historical activity that places participants in the role of about the First Peoples of Turtle Island before, during & after settler contact) for Calvary a few years ago! It was really incredible to reconnect with her, and we are grateful for her willingness to share her knowledge and experiences with us. Listen to the interview in this post to learn more about Powwow dancing, and follow the resources below to learn and reflect more.
